about the band

Freezone were formed in 1981 with Ian Summers (Lead Vocal), Anth Bryan (Guitar & backing vocals), David Hodgson (Guitar and backing vocals), Stu Hindle ( Bass guitar and backing vocals), Jonnie Hart (Drums) . Members of the band had grown from the true punk days of 1977 combining original topical material with energetic performances. The band recorded their first 5 track demo at Guardian Studios at Pity-Me Durham in 1981. Jonnies' inpromptu departure in 1983 saw Dale Greenan take up the sticks n skins. In 1983 "The Deadly Bride" and "Bare your Soul" were recorded in Leeds, which featured Ian "Wrighty" Wright on Sax. The bands final demo recording with this line-up being "The Knife" in 1985, recorded at Fairview studio, Hull.

Anth flew back to the UK from Australia in February 2020, just prior to the UK's Covid 19 lockdown and teamed up with original member Dave Hodgson to discuss a new project. Realising Freezone songs are still as relavant today as they were in the 1980's, they decided, with the blessing of the remaining original members, to set about updating and recording some of Freezone's back catalogue and previously un-recorded material.

Rehearsals (Covid rules permitting) started in 2021, re-writing some songs and modernising others. Good friends who the pair have collaborated with in other bands over years agreed to fill the gap for the recording line-up with Paul Hopwood on Bass, Dave McDonald on Drums and Graeme Paylor taking lead vocals. Recording started at Broadwater Studios, Gateshead in October 2021 with the brilliant Gav Richards at the engineering helm, with the release of 3 songs expected mid 2022.
